Approve your ChatGPT Ads budget and check billing

Confirm your advertising budget, understand OpenAI billing, and verify promotional credits before launch.

Before you begin

Identify the person who can approve advertising spend and the person who owns the payment method. They may be different people.

1. Agree on the campaign budget

Confirm the campaign’s purpose and destination, start and end dates, currency, budget type, media budget, separate Pepperland fees, total out-of-pocket limit, and who can approve budget increases or pauses.

For a fixed-spend pilot, Pepperland recommends a campaign-total budget, which sets a maximum media budget for that campaign. A daily budget is a seven-day average, and a campaign can spend up to twice the selected daily amount on an individual day, subject to the weekly allowance. Add the budgets for all approved campaigns when you assess total exposure. Learn more about creating ChatGPT Ads campaigns.

2. Check the billing setup

In Ads Manager, open Billing and confirm the billing profile, company payment method, and invoice email address. With self-serve card billing, OpenAI charges after ad delivery when the account reaches its payment threshold or for the outstanding balance at the end of the month. The payment threshold controls the charging cadence; it is not a spending cap. Learn more about billing and payment for ChatGPT Ads.

3. Verify promotional credit separately

Find the offer addressed to the advertiser and confirm the eligible account or advertiser, enrollment or signup route, qualifying spend and deadline, when any timer begins, the credit amount and issuance method, expiration date, and eligible charges.

Credits apply only to the designated account, do not count toward qualifying spend, and cannot be transferred. The client remains responsible for charges not covered by a credit. Unless the specific offer states otherwise, credits expire 90 days after issuance and cannot be combined with other incentives. Review the OpenAI advertising credit terms.

Agree on what to do if the credit does not appear. Do not approve spending that your company cannot cover without the credit.

4. Give written launch approval

Review the final campaign with Pepperland. Approve the specific campaign, budget, and dates in writing before launch. Ask for a revised plan if an expected credit or its conditions change before increasing spend.

5. Review charges and delivery

Review campaign spend and billing notices in the advertiser account. Reporting may lag by approximately seven to eight hours, so a zero displayed balance does not prove that no charges are accruing. Review the ChatGPT Ads billing guide.

For an unexplained charge, compare the same advertiser account, campaigns, date range, and time zone. Provide Pepperland with the invoice reference and amount, with payment details hidden.

You are ready to launch when the final campaign matches the written approval, billing is complete, and any promotional credit has been verified or excluded from the spending assumptions.
