How to Grant Access to Google Search Console

In this article, you will learn how to grant and manage user access to Google Search Console.

A new user can be added by someone with owner-level access by following these steps:

Definitions

Owner
Holds complete authority over a property in Search Console. This includes managing other users, changing settings, viewing all available data, and using any tools. Every property must have at least one verified owner or else no one can access it. There are two types of owners, both with identical permissions:

  • Verified Owner: Establishes ownership by providing evidence (for example, uploading a specific HTML file or adding a meta tag). Adding or removing a verified owner requires placing or removing that verification proof on the site.
  • Delegated Owner: Receives ownership from a verified owner without needing to provide a verification token. Adding or removing a delegated owner is done directly from the user management settings in Search Console.

Full User
Can view all data in Search Console and has the ability to perform certain actions.

Restricted User
Has a limited view of most data and fewer permissions.

Associate
Refers to individuals or accounts granted the right to perform specific actions or access certain information on behalf of a site. They do not have direct access to open or view the entire Search Console account or all its data. Their capabilities vary depending on the particular type of association (for example, associations for the Chrome Web Store).

Add a New User or Delegated Owner

  1. Open the property in Search Console.
  2. Open the Users and permissions page in property settings.
    • Go to Settings > Users and permissions.
    • Note: This page is only visible if you’re a property owner.
  3. Click “Add user.”
  4. Enter the Google Account name (email) of the new user.
    • Users must have a valid Google Account.
    • An email group cannot be added as a user.
  5. Choose the permission level (role) to grant the user.
  6. Save your changes.

Limits

  • Full/Restricted/Associate Users:
    A property can have a maximum of 100 non-owners.

  • Delegated Owners:
A property can have up to 500 total verified + delegated owners.

    • For example, if a property has 200 verified owners and 300 delegated owners, no new delegated owners can be added.
  • Verified Owners:
Verified owners have no maximum per property.

    • If a property already has 500 owners (of any type), you can still verify additional owners.
